Every musician and singer I know adores Brazilian music! It's a genre that, like Jazz and Latin, is rich in exotic rhythm, harmony and melody. Like my producers Allan Schwortzberg, Bob Mann and I have always loved and admired Bossa Nova and Samba beginning with my first trip there 35 years ago. We created this CD to contain something for everyone who is moved by music, or moves to music!. Along with the standards from The great Brazilian Song Book, we have even re-recorded my old hit, Rock 'n Roll Lullaby in a Bossa style. The original was actually well known in Brazil as the theme for one of the longest running novellas (Soap) called " 0 Ninho" (The Nest). I am also honored to have appearances by guest artists Ivan Lins, Ivete Sangalo, Joao Bosco and Leila Pinheiro, four Brazilian, internationally known stars who are singing duets with me. Among the carefully chosen standard songs, we included Resposta ao Tempo, a stunningly beautiful, but somewhat unknown song in America, for which we wrote English lyrics, and called, Question of Time. We had to otter the storyline from the original Portuguese abstract poetry, to a painful lament of an older man who loves a much younger girl from a distance, knowing it can never be, and must be content with his silent fantasy. Each song has been treated with special rhythm feels and unique arrangements and orchestrations. Though quite different from what one might expect, considering my previous Pop and Country repertoire, to me this CD is part of a natural musical evolution and a labor of love for the music that we hope everyone (not only musicians & singers), will enjoy and appreciate. |
