He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

Due to the influence of her mother, a former professional dancer/singer, Laura began studying ballet at age three, tap at five, and then jazz. At thirteen, she auditioned and won a scholarship presented by the Professional Dancers Society.
At seventeen, Laura was selected to be one of four previous scholarship recipients to perform in the opening production number of the organization's annual Gypsy Award Gala, that year honoring Sammy Davis, Jr. However, in her college years at California State University, Northridge, Laura decided to put her dancing on hold and focus on her other passion--singing. The summer after graduation she created and produced her first cabaret act, Old Beginnings, which debuted at Tom Rolla's Gardenia to excellent reviews and a consequent request to return with her show a few months later.
After that engagement she continued performing in other clubs around Los Angeles to further hone the craft of cabaret performance. During that time she auditioned and joined the L.A.- based repertory company Theatre West, drawn to the well-reputed musical theatre class taught by member Betty Garrett. While in class one night, Laura met Marshall Barer (lyricist of Once Upon A Mattress) who heard her sing and featured her in his staged reading of Happy Lot starring Betty Garrett and Michael Feinstein. Laura continued working in musical theatre and cabaret, but realized that there were other levels to be reached in her work. Fortuitously, not long after, Laura met actress/director Kerrie Keane who was starting an acting class to which she invited Laura.
As Laura's acting craft developed, so did her understanding and expression of the lyrics and music that she sang. In May 2005, Laura combined her two strengths when she debuted the character of Swoozie Blessed, a desperately struggling singer on the edge in White Buffalo's premier production of Fool Am I, to wonderful reviews.
After the show closed, Laura felt the next step was to produce an album. Laura has completed this project and looks forward to releasing her debut CD He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not in February 2007.
